‘Afrikaners are my fellow South Africans,’ says Gayton McKenzie
Minister Gayton McKenzie stated in a social media post that he will never encourage Afrikaners to leave the country.
Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie stated in a social media post today, 9 February 2025, that although many people have asked him to encourage Afrikaners to leave the country, he will not do so. This comes in response to US President Donald Trump inviting Afrikaners to seek refuge in America.
‘I will never say abahambe to my countrymen’
McKenzie’s post reads as follows:
I am part of a political party who advocates for mass deportation of illegal foreigners, we are extremely vocal about it and will never stop until the last one leaves.
Since President Trump announced that Afrikaners can resettle in America, many have asked me to also encourage Afrikaners to Abahambe (leave), I have also seen a lot of people encouraging them to leave.
I will never do so, Afrikaners are my fellow South Africans, illegal foreigners are not. I am not intimidated by the noise or trying to be politically correct. I love all South Africans.
I am for all South Africans. I will continue the work of Nelson Mandela with all my shortcomings, we are the rainbow nation. Our country shall rise.

Trump sanctions South Africa
Referring to the Expropriation Act recently signed into law by President Ramaphosa, Trump stated in an executive order that the Act would ‘enable the government of South Africa to seize ethnic minority Afrikaners’ agricultural property without compensation’.
The order also mentioned foreign policy clashes between the US and South Africa over the war in the Middle East.
Donald Trump’s ally, South African-born Elon Musk, has accused President Cyril Ramaphosa’s government of having ‘openly racist ownership laws’.
The US Secretary of State will not attend the upcoming G20 talks in South Africa due to the country having an ‘anti-American’ agenda, as previously reported by The South African.
Trump offers Afrikaners US resettlement
The executive order stated that ‘the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall take appropriate steps, consistent with law, to prioritise humanitarian relief, including admission and resettlement through the United States Refugee Admissions Programme, for Afrikaners in South Africa who are victims of unjust racial discrimination’.
