ANC clarifies stance on members handing out food in party gear

The African National Congress (ANC) has expressed serious concern over social media images showing members distributing food parcels while displaying the party’s name, colours, and branding.

These images, shared by Deputy Minister and MP Bernice Swarts, wrongly suggest that the distributions were part of an official ANC campaign.

The ANC says no party structure authorised the distribution of the food parcels.

The ANC says it did not authorise the actions and states that those involved did not act under its mandate or authority.

Members Must Respect Community Dignity

The ANC acknowledges the important role its members play in supporting vulnerable households and local initiatives.

Acts of solidarity reflect the movement’s values of Ubuntu and service to the people.

However, the party warns members not to use its branding for charity or community assistance or present such initiatives as official party programmes.

Assistance must always respect the dignity of the people and never diminish their humanity.

ANC takes internal action

The ANC has reprimanded the member involved and anyone who participated under the ANC banner without authorisation.

The party calls on members, organisations and individuals not to misuse the its name or symbols.

It says such actions can mislead the public and undermine community dignity. The party remains committed to tackling poverty, unemployment, and inequality.

The party says it will continue working to improve communities. It says this effort forms part of its mission to build a better life for all.
