BMA sharpens law enforcement at Ficksburg Port of Entry with Lesotho

Authorities have launched an intensified law enforcement operation at the Ficksburg Port of Entry between the Free State and Lesotho as part of efforts to strengthen border security during the busy holiday period.

The operation is being led by Border Management Authority (BMA) Commissioner Michael Masiapato and forms part of a broader strategy to ensure safe, efficient and well-coordinated border operations.

Security measures

Dubbed Operation Hi-Tivise, the initiative introduces strengthened, multi-layered security measures aimed at managing increased cross-border traffic during the festive season.

As part of the operation, Commissioner Masiapato is conducting walkabouts at the port of entry, inspecting operationally vulnerable areas to assess readiness levels and engage with deployed personnel as well as cross-border partners.

Peak travel periods

Similar operations are planned for other high-volume border crossings, including the Maseru Bridge border post and Lebombo, during peak holiday travel periods.

Authorities say the operation is intended to enhance security while facilitating smooth movement of travellers and goods across South Africa’s borders.
