Bolt will NOT compensate Nigerian driver’s death – Here’s why
Bolt South Africa will NOT be compensating the death of unlawful driver Isaac Satlat, whose dash cam murder went viral...
Bolt South Africa has confirmed it will not be compensating the family of Nigerian driver Isaac Satlat after he was murdered during an e-hailing trip last week.
The 22-year-old was killed by two passengers in a disturbing video caught on a dash cam.
Four suspects have been arrested and appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court.
BOLT SOUTH AFRICA WON’T OFFER COMPENSATION TO NIGERIAN DRIVER
In a statement posted on its social media platforms, Bolt South Africa offered its condolences to the family and loved ones of driver Isaac Satlat.
The e-hailing company condemned the murder, stating it was working with police in the ongoing investigation.
Bolt revealed that Satlat – a 22-year-old Nigerian – was not a registered driver. It added that the late foreign national had illegally used the profile of another driver, a man identified as Wiseman Makobe. Satlat engaged in “profile sharing,” a practice prohibited by the e-hailing app for safety reasons.
As such, he was ineligible for compensation.

The statement shared: “Bolt provides comprehensive support and compensation in cases where drivers are operating lawfully under their own verified profiles. This includes compensation for death, serious injury, and disability, as well as coverage of medical expenses.
“However, where impersonation or profile sharing occurs, the individual is operating unlawfully outside the scope of the platform’s protection. In such cases, compensation policies do not apply”.
To qualify for Bolt driver insurance, drivers must be logged into the app and en route or on a trip. The incident must be reported to Bolt, and a police case must be opened. Drivers must then send their medical documents directly to the company.
BACKABUDDY CAMPAIGN
Meanwhile, a BackaBuddy campaign to cover the costs of Isaac Satlat’s repatriation and funeral has surpassed its fundraising goal.
The campaign has raised over R72 000 of its R70 000 goal.
Over 250 individuals have contributed.
