The resident immediately contacted local responders and was advised to stay calm, keep her distance, and maintain visual contact with the snake until help arrived.
Local snake catcher Mornay Thysse soon arrived at the property and confirmed that the intruder was a Cape cobra, one of South Africa’s most dangerous snakes.
Highly neurotoxic
The Cape cobra’s venom is highly neurotoxic, capable of causing respiratory failure if a person is bitten and left untreated.
Thysse safely removed the snake from the home, and residents were reminded to remain vigilant during the warmer months when snakes are more active and likely to enter properties in search of food or shelter.
