THREE SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR VANDALISM AT CITY POWER DELIVERY CENTRE

City Power reported on Friday, 17 April 2026 that three suspects have been arrested at its Inner City Service Delivery Centre (SDC).

A group of 15 people from Bezuidenhout Valley stormed the SDC reception area.

The residents demanded technicians to be dispatched immediately to repair electricity to 3rd and 4th Avenue.

The area had been experiencing an unplanned outage.

“City Power had been actively communicating with affected customers throughout the outage period,” said the electricity provider.

City Power said despite their attempts to communicate with the community, residents—angry over the situation—stormed the centre, breaking office chairs, photo frames, and a door handle.

The power supply company’s Security and Risk Management Services immediately called the police and three suspects were arrested.

The suspects are currently in custody and charged with malicious damage to property.

TRANSFORMER SUPPLYING POWER TO RANDJESPARK RESTORED

Technicians from City Power have successfully repaired the transformer supplying electricity to the Randjespark Switching Station.

A transformer failure prolonged the outage, which began on Monday, 30 March 2026.

The sourcing of specialised, high‑demand materials delayed power restoration.

The energy supplier deployed a generator to restore electricity to the remaining areas of Randjespark.

“Our technical team will be assessing the generator, and once it has been confirmed to be in good working condition, it will be commissioned to restore power to the remaining customers,” the statement read.
