The Hilton Durban will reopen this March under a new name after its management agreement with the Hilton brand ended earlier this year.

Durban’s Hilton hotel reopening under a new name

One of Durban’s most recognisable hotels is about to enter a new era.

The Hilton Durban, a long-standing feature of the city’s skyline, is set to reopen under a new brand following a major management change earlier this year.

The hotel will officially reopen on 16 March as Royal Majestic Durban, marking the start of a new chapter for the property.

End of an era for Durban’s Hilton hotel

Earlier reports confirmed that African American Properties Hotel Pty, the owning company of the building, terminated its management agreement with Hilton on 5 February 2026.

At the time, a spokesperson told IOL that the hotel would no longer form part of the Hilton portfolio.

While Hilton had managed the property for years, the building itself has always been owned by Royal Majestic.

A new name on the city’s skyline

Following the management change, Royal Majestic has now taken full control of the hotel’s operations and management.

“As of February 5, Royal Majestic has officially taken over the full management and operations,” a spokesperson confirmed.

The hotel will reopen under the name Royal Majestic Durban, joining the broader Royal Majestic hotel portfolio.

The change marks a significant shift for one of Durban’s best-known hospitality landmarks.
