‘Nerves got the better of me’

Connor Doig was honest in the assessment of his performance.

“The nerves got the better of me. The mental side of my game needs a lot of work.

“My game is there, but I just was there mentally today.

“I felt tight. I didn’t feel free at any point in the match. I didn’t really back my strokes. I guess it just wasn’t my day.”

Doig was full of praise for his opponent.

“Full credit to him. He played a good match.”

Next up for Connor Doig is a doubles match with Bulgarian partner Dimitar Kisimov.
