Former Orlando Pirates star Innocent Chikoya is doing his utmost to develop the next generation of footballers.

Since hanging up his boots Chikoya has stayed in touch with the game by helping youngsters develop their game.

He doesn’t call his project an Academy but is passionate about football development.

“I’ve got my own kids that I’m training with my own structure that I’m working on,” Chikoya told KickOff.

“I preferably don’t refer to it as an academy, as it’s a development programmed.

“I develop and work with kids as I aim to give them an opportunity to pursue whichever dreams they may have.

“I’ve got kids from an under-9 age group up to 18-years-old.

“We’re based at John Orr Technical High School.

Chasing dreams

Chikoya didn’t really generate the megabucks that some of today’s players rake in but says that he and his wife are content and she does her part to support his dreams.

“In terms of how I put food on the table, I’ve got a very supporting wife who works.

“She covers where my other leg doesn’t reach and we’re happily living in Kensington.”

The 52-year-old called time on his career back in 2005 when he was a Moroka Swallows player.

He was a PSL champion with Manning Rangers before making his move to Orlando Pirates in 1999.
