Gautrain services encounter disruptions

Gautrain services on the North-South line were delayed on Tuesday morning due to technical issues. Customers commuting on this line by 8:00 on Tuesday were advised to anticipate delays of up to one hour.

Jacaranda reported, technicians are trying to fix the issue, according to Gautrain spokesperson Kesagee Nayager.

Nayager noted that this morning, there have been issues with the track circuit, leading to delays for trains on the North-South line. Travelers using the North-South line were told to expect delays of up to one hour.

“Our technicians are busy fault finding and hoping to resolve the issue as soon as possible so that we may resume services according to schedule and we apologise for the inconvenience on this cold morning,” said Nayager.

Gautrain prices have increased

While discounts for weekly and monthly passes remain, Gautrain fares have seen a six percent increase started from 1 June. The prices for Gautrain bus services, however, have not been affected by this change.

Gautrain passengers are now required to pay R49, up from R43, for the Hatfield to Rhodesfield route, and R43, increased from R41, for the journey from Sandton to Pretoria.

Gautrain announced fare increases on their website on 14 May. The monthly fare from Hatfield to Pretoria, previously R674, will now be R716. However, passengers with monthly or weekly tickets will benefit from a 20 percent and a 10 percent discount, respectively.

Parking fees also increase

There is an increase in parking fees as well, starting at R80 and going up to R85 for a full day after an hourly rate of R10 to R12. Train schedules won’t change at all.

“Gautrain fares are to be lower than the cost of using a private car for the same journey but more expensive than those of existing taxi and rail fares,” says Gautrain.
