Gayton McKenzie confirms Springboks vs All Blacks NOT on SABC

New Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie has confirmed that Saturday’s Rugby Championship Test between the Springboks and All Blacks at the Cape Town Stadium will not be televised live on SABC.

Those fans wishing to watch – who did not purchase tickets – will need to follow on SuperSport.

As reported by The South African website, the SABC and SuperSport reached an agreement in celebration of 30 years of democracy to televise last weekend’s Test at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

‘One-off’ deal

However, according to TimesLIVE, McKenzie confirmed that deal was a ‘one-off’ and did not include the clash in Cape Town.

“That was a one-off but I am talking to cabinet soon, as government [we] must play our part,” Gayton McKenzie said, speaking at Freedom Park in Pretoria on Thursday where he launched Heritage Month.

Sources at both the SABC and SuperSport reportedly indicated it is highly unlikely a deal will be struck in the remaining hours leading up to the match.

Kick-off is at 17:00.

The match is a sold-out affair.
