It’s back! Stage 2 load shedding until Wednesday afternoon

Here we go again! While Eskom says it is suspending load shedding at midnight, don’t get too excited – we’re in for at least three days of blackouts as the embattled power utility says stage 2 load shedding will kick in again from Monday until Wednesday, between 16:00 and 00:00.

“Stage 2 loadshedding will be suspended at midnight tonight, then be implemented daily at 16:00 – 00:00 on Monday to Wednesday. The loadshedding is required to help manage emergency generation reserves during the evenings,” said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha in a statement on Sunday, 16 October 2022.

ESKOM TO GIVE UPDATE ON LOAD SHEDDING SOON

Eskom says it will give more updates, should there be any significant changes to the current load shedding schedule.

“Since yesterday afternoon two generation units at Grootvlei as well as a unit each at Kriel and Majuba power stations were returned to service. A generation unit at Lethabo power station was taken offline for repairs. We currently have 5 244MW on planned maintenance, while another 15 612MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns,” Mantshantsha added.

He has further reminded South Africans that load shedding is only implemented as a last resort meant to protect the national grid.
