The Department of Correctional Services has urged the public not to confront the dangerous inmates who escaped from a jail in Makhanda.

JUST IN: Seven dangerous Zimbabwean inmates escape from jail

The Department of Correctional Services and South African Police Service (SAPS) have launched a manhunt for seven inmates who escaped at Grahamstown Correctional Facility in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape. 

The seven are said to have escaped in the early hours of Tuesday, 18 October. 

DANGEROUS INMATES ESCAPE IN MAKHANDA 

The seven inmates are Zimbabwean nationals who were charged for rhino poaching and they are:

  • Nhamo Muyambo
  • Francis Chitho
  • Trymore Chauke
  • Lubuyo September
  • Abraham Moyane
  • Simba Masinge
  • Bennet Kwarrile

The Department of Correctional Services said investigations have been instituted and the circumstances relating to the escape will be confirmed in due course. 

“Correctional Services is appealing to the public to assist with any information that might lead to the rearrest of the escapees. They are considered dangerous and should not be confronted if spotted. Information should be shared with the nearest police station.” 

Images of the inmates are yet to be shared.
