Kaizer Chiefs rumours: Khune’s GOAT claim, huge Basadien boost

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news wrap includes an audacious claim from club icon Itumeleng Khune. There’s also great news in Amakhosi’s pursuit of Fawaaz Basadien.

Khune puts himself at the top of the pile

Instagram and TikTok’s blind ranking trend sees people name their top five or top ten in a category. The twist? They only get given one name/concept/brand at a time, without knowing what the others are. Recently, Itumeleng Khune was asked to do exactly this with the best goalkeepers ever to grace the South African top flight. He placed Ronwen Williams at the top of the rankings, only to change his mind when his name came up later in the challenge.

When asked why he regards himself as South Africa’s best-ever goalkeeper, Khune said:

“I’ve worked hard, won trophies, and made my mark in South African football. I respect all the other great keepers on the list, but I’ve earned my place at number 1!”

Chiefs get a boost in their chase for Basadien

Chiefs are expected to go back in for Basadien ahead of the next transfer window. According to Soccer-Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs have found a loophole that will help them sign priority left-back target Fawaaz Basadien. The Stellies and Bafana man has three goals and three assists in the league this term. Across all competitions, he has seven goals and six assists.

“According to reports in the local media, a 30% sell-on clause in Basadien’s contract, which he signed when he joined the club from Swallows FC, is set to expire in June, giving Amakhosi a chance to secure the services of the Bafana Bafana left back. With the sell-on clause reportedly expiring, Stellies will receive the entire transfer fee for the player and may not inflate it as much as they would have while the sell-on clause was still active. The Soweto giants may feel that they have a shot at finally bringing in the player to bolster the squad.”

Is Khune the South African GOAT?
