Malaysia: Scientists turn bedbugs into crime-scene spies
Bedbugs are a nightmare for many, but Malaysian researchers have discovered that these blood-feeding insects can serve as a remarkably useful tool in crime-scene investigations. Bedbugs retain DNA traces from the blood they’ve consumed for up to 45 days, making it possible to determine the gender, eye colour, or hair colour of the people they’ve bitten – and therefore to identify potential perpetrators.
