Mamelodi Sundowns coach tells first-team star he can leave

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has given the greenlight for one of the club’s stars to be loaned out.

Cardoso prefers to trim his large squad, and defender Rushine De Reuck will reportedly make way at Chloorkop.

De Reuck has fallen down the pecking order at the club, making just four starts this season.

And now, the 28-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns defender will be allowed to leave in a bid to earn more game-time.

De Reuck told he can leave

“Sundowns initially rejected an approach from Sekhukhune United for the defender’s loan move. However, the situation seems to have changed.” a FARPost report read.

“De Reuck reportedly reached out to the Portuguese coach, seeking a release to secure more playing time elsewhere.Cardoso, who apparently prefers to work with a smaller squad, has given the 28-year-old player the green light to pursue a potential loan move.”

In other news, Mamelodi Sundowns winger Erwin Saavedra is set to leave the club after a difficult three-year spell in Mzansi.

Mamelodi Sundowns paid a reported R15 million for him back in 2022 however, the attacker made just 13 appearances for the club due to persistent injury issues as well as competition for minutes.

Now, the Bolivian attacker has returned home, and reports suggest he’s likely not to return to the club.

Saavedra set for Mamelodi Sundowns exit

“It hasn’t worked out for Erwin and I don’t see him playing for Mamelodi Sundowns again. He’s back in Bolivia for the birth of his child but there’s a possibility that he might not come back here because there is interest from clubs in his country,” an insider told Citizen.

“You saw how the media was already waiting for him at the airport when he arrived from South Africa because he’s a big player on that side.

“Competition is tough at Downs and injuries have not helped him too in his time in South Africa. Sundowns have now signed Jayden (Adams) so I doubt that Erwin will be needed because they have enough cover in his position.”
