A 55-year-old man from New Brighton, Gqeberha, died after his girlfriend allegedly poured boiling water on him while he was asleep.

According to a media statement issued by SAPS, the incident took place around 23:00 on Wednesday, 23 April, at a home in Ntshekisa Street in New Brighton.

The girlfriend allegedly boiled water and threw it over the man while he was sleeping in his bed. He sustained severe burn injuries and was rushed to the hospital, but later passed away from his injuries.

BOILING WATER ATTACK AT GQBERHA

In a separate, unrelated incident, SAPS in Gqeberha are investigating a drowning at North End Lake in Gqeberha, which took place yesterday, 29 April.

Two foreign nationals were allegedly fishing from a raft on the lake when the raft capsized at around 20:00. One of the men managed to swim to safety, but a 26-year-old man has gone missing.
