Original cast returns as Scary Movie 6 drops first trailer

The Scary Movie franchise is officially back in action, with its sixth instalment set to hit cinemas on 6 June 2026.

The upcoming film, Scary Movie 6, debuted its first trailer ahead of Scream 7 during that film’s opening weekend.

Early reactions have been largely positive, with many fans praising the teaser for pushing boundaries and crossing lines that modern comedies often avoid.

Original stars Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans return to the franchise after more than two decades, reprising their roles as Shorty Meeks and Ray Wilkins. They are joined by Anna Faris, who is back as the iconic Cindy Campbell.

The franchise first launched with Scary Movie in 2000, followed by Scary Movie 2 a year later.

The Wayans brothers’ involvement ended after the second instalment, though the series continued with Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, and Scary Movie 5. However, the later entries were widely panned by critics and failed to replicate the commercial and cultural success of the first two films.

Marlon Wayans, who serves as a producer and writer on the new instalment, has assured fans that the comedy will stay true to the franchise’s roots rather than rely on cheap shock value.

“Our brand of humour is never that,” he told GamesRadar ahead of Scary Movie 6’s release.

“If you look at Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2, it wasn’t, ‘Hey, let’s just throw everything in there.’ We included what was organic to the characters.”

With its original creative forces returning, Scary Movie 6 aims to recapture the irreverent energy that made the franchise a pop culture phenomenon in the early 2000s.
