PCB & SLC Discuss Key T20I Series 2025

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are actively negotiating to hold a bilateral T20I series in January as one of the preparations events to the ICC Men T20 World Cup 2026. With Sri Lanka and India as co-hosts of the tournament, the proposed series will be a good opportunity to both teams to make an evaluation of conditions and combinations prior to the international event.

The same insiders claim that both boards are now considering logistical and operational issues to play a three-match T20I series. Although negotiations are still in progress, the authorities have stressed that, a formal announcement can be done only after a common agreement is achieved regarding all the arrangements.

The Sri Lankan media indicate that the series has been provisionally scheduled to be conducted between January 8 and 12 with all the three matches most likely to take place at the Rangiri Dambul stadium in Dambulla. The stadiums are unavailable in Colombo and Pallekeele because of ongoing renovations before the world cup which is likely to take place within the February-March period.

The tour has strategic significance to Pakistan. The Fusion Formula will mean that Pakistan and India will not go to each other countries to play ICC events in three years, which means that all their World Cup matches will be held in Sri Lanka. The series itself, then, is an important acclimatisation to local conditions.

Pakistan are in a domestic T20I tri-series with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe that is due to end November 29 at Rawalpindi. The hosts are on top of the table with three consecutive victories and Zimbabwe are trailing them, and Sri Lanka are yet to score a single point.
