SAWS issues thunderstorm warning to THESE provinces

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms expected to hit parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga on Monday and Tuesday, urging residents and motorists to exercise caution.

According to SAWS, thundershowers are expected to develop from Monday afternoon, with the potential to become severe across large areas of both provinces.

Heavy downpours

The storms may bring heavy downpours, strong gusty winds, and hail, particularly in densely populated regions.

“These conditions could result in the flooding of roads, settlements, and low-lying areas, leading to possible road closures and bridge disruptions,” the weather service said.

Motorists have also been warned to look out for falling trees, flying debris, and slippery road surfaces, which could create hazardous driving conditions.

Stay updated

SAWS added that while the central and eastern parts of the country can expect partly cloudy skies with isolated to scattered thundershowers, other regions will remain fine and warm to cool.

The public is advised to stay updated through official weather alerts and to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall or lightning activity.
