South Africans are paying tribute to 'Twitter chef' Tito Mboweni by posting pics of one of his favourite meals - tinned fish!
South Africans are honouring the late Tito Mboweni in the best way possible – by making one of his favourite dish, tinned fish!
The former Minister of Finance and Reserve Bank Governor was known for his quirky cuisine, which included plenty of pilchards.
According to a family statement, the 65-year-old died on Saturday after a short illness. An announcement of his funeral details will be made in the coming days.
RIP TITO MBOWENI: SAFFAS POST THEIR TINNED FISH MEALS
On social media, many South Africans have been posting pictures of their home-cooked meals in honour of Tito Mboweni.
Many have opted for tinned-fish curry, a favourite for the late minister.
Meanwhile, Lucky Star Pilchards – which falls under Tiger Brands – paid tribute to their unofficial ambassador.
The tinned fish company said in a statement, “We are deeply sad to learn of the passing of Tito Mboweni.
“His unwavering dedication to South Africa’s growth and leadership has left a lasting legacy. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time”.
Lucky Star captioned the post: “We lost a true South African Icon.”
FIKZ THE COOK SHARES SPECIAL RECIPE
Meanwhile, celebrity chef Fikile Zungu, better known as Fikz the Cook, shared a look at how to prepare a Tito Mboweni inspired meal.
In place of tin fish, the star cook – who won the Food Influencer of the Year category at the DStv Content Creator Awards – used chicken.
