The Proteas are firing on all cylinders at the ongoing T20 World Cup and are poised to finish at the top of Group D.
But how much have they earned as a result of their fine performances to date?
Let us take a closer look.
Incentives
The ICC has provided incentives to all teams at the T20 World Cup, with a $31 154 (R496 000) bonus allocated for every victory.
“In a move to keep every match competitive, the ICC also provides performance bonuses. Teams are expected to earn $31 154 for every single win they secure during the Group and Super 8 stages. This ensures that even if a team has already qualified or been eliminated, there is still a massive financial motivation to win their remaining fixtures,” according to the ICC.
South Africa have won all three of their matches at the T20 World Cup so far, Recording victories over Canada, Afghanistan and New Zealand.
That means that Aiden Markram and his team have already secured $93 462 in match-winning bonuses.
That equates to almost R1.5 million in earnings so far for the Proteas.
Meanwhile, the Proteas still have another $31 154 to play for in their final Group D match against the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, 18 February at 07:30 (SA time).
SA LOOKING FOR STRONG FINISH
In addition to the prize money on offer, the Proteas will be determined to secure top spot in their group.
A victory over the UAE will ensure they finish at the summit of Group D.
The Super 8 lies in wait for the Proteas as one of the top two finishers from each of the four groups. The Super 8 will consist of two groups of four teams.
Thereafter, the top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.
