Turkish court orders Istanbul Mayor Imamoglu jailed pending trial

A Turkish court on Sunday formally jailed and charged Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu with corruption pending a trial, state media said, in a move likely to fuel more protests despite a ban on public gatherings. The popular opposition leader denies the charges, widely viewed as politically  motivated, and vowed not to bow down following the court order.
