UPDATE | Body of missing kite-boarder found at sea

The body of Graham Howes, a 38-year-old kite-boarder from Bloubergstrand who went missing on Sunday, has been located and recovered at sea, the NSRI has confirmed.

Howes was reported missing after failing to return from a kite-boarding session off Eden on the Bay.

Multi-agency search

An extensive multi-agency search was launched involving NSRI teams, emergency services, and private vessels, covering a wide area extending north-west of Bloubergstrand toward Dassen Island.

During the course of Monday, Howes’s kite-surf board and sail were recovered at sea.

Later in the day, his body was located and recovered by the crew of a local motor yacht that had voluntarily joined the search operation.

The remains have been taken into the care of the South African Police Service and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Authorities have extended condolences to Howes’s family and friends.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has praised the remarkable collaboration among emergency responders, community members, and volunteers who took part in the search, stating that their collective efforts brought closure to a grieving family.

The family has requested privacy as they mourn their loss.
