It was the Soweto giants’ third defeat in the league this season and their second such result on the road.

Masandawana, meanwhile, claimed a crucial three points that opened the gap between the two sides to an imposing nine points, although Orlando Pirates do have a game in hand.

Orlando Pirates will look to bounce back in their next league outing against Golden Arrows on Wednesday, 19 February at 19:30.

However, prior to that clash, the Buccaneers will take on Baroka FC in a Nedbank Round of 16 tie on Saturday, 15 February at 15:00.

In other Betway Premiership fixtures played this weekend, Kaizer Chiefs beat Stellenbosch FC 1-0 on Friday night, while AmaZulu were too good for Marumo Gallants, winning 2-0.

On Saturday, Magesi FC upset Cape Town City FC 2-0, while there Richards Bay (2-0 over Polokwane City) and TS Galaxy (1-0 over Chippa United).

Sunday’s lone fixture saw Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United share the spoils 1-1.

As a reminder, Royal AM are still suspended, meaning their match against Golden Arrows was cancelled.
