Mamelodi Sundowns returned to the top of the Betway Premiership with a win while Kaizer Chiefs were held at home.

With Orlando Pirates in action on Sunday afternoon, Masandawana took the advantage to go top and put pressure on their rivals by defeating Sekhukhune United 3-0. An own goal by TT Yamba put Sundowns upfront but were made to wait until the second half to score their second.

Five minutes after the break, Iqraam Rayners was adjudged to have been fouled by Sekhukhune keeper Badra Sangare. Replays showed that the striker dived however the referee awarded the Brazilians a penalty.

Underfire R63 million-signing Arthur Sales made it 2-0 to give Sundowns the advantage. In the 90th minute, Thapelo Morena teed up Rayners who did well to hold the Ba Bina Noko defenders before scoring his first goal of the match.

Sundowns win, Chiefs squander win.

A win sees Sundowns top the log on goal difference ahead of rivals Pirates. The Buccaneers will be in action on Sunday against Stellenbosch at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Unlike Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs could not capitalise despite going 2-0 up against Royal Am on Saturday evening. Amakhosi came into the clash looking for their second successive win following their impressive 2-1 win over Richards Bay midweek. Nasreddine Nabi‘s side were eyeing third spot in the Betway Premiership which would have put them at least eight points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates.

Two quick goals from Ashley Du Preez and Wandile Duba put Kaizer Chiefs ahead with Royal AM seeking answers. Amakhosi continued to pile pressure but could not find the third goal which would have sealed the match.

Unfortunately, Nabi’s men allowed the KZN-based side back into the match and the away side scored twice in the second half to force a 2-2 draw.
