VIDEO: Plane crashes into fire truck
Chilling footage has emerged of the moment when an Air Canada plane fatally collided with a fire truck at New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
A tragic ground collision at LaGuardia Airport claimed the lives of two pilots and left the aviation community in shock after an Air Canada Express plane collided with a Port Authority fire truck upon landing.
The aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ-900 operated by Jazz Aviation from Montreal, was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members when it collided with a moving fire engine.
Authorities have confirmed the deaths of both pilots, while 41 people, including 39 passengers and the two Port Authority officers in the fire truck had to be hospitalised.
A flight attendant, Solange Tremblay, was reportedly ejected from the aircraft upon impact. She is currently undergoing surgery for multiple leg fractures. The two officers in the fire truck sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
While the official Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) is currently being analysed by the NTSB, publicly available Air Traffic Control (ATC) recordings from LiveATC.net reveal a chaotic scene.
The fire truck was responding to a separate “investigation” on a United Airlines flight when it was cleared to cross the runway. Moments later, the controller realised the Air Canada jet was touchdown-bound.

Chaotic scene
Following the impact, a controller was heard on an open mic saying, “I messed up,” while a colleague attempted to console him. Investigators are now looking into whether chronic staffing shortages – which have forced controllers into six-day work weeks – contributed to the lapse in coordination.
Doug Clarke, President of Jazz Aviation stated: “Today is an incredibly difficult day for our airline, our employees, and most importantly, the families and loved ones of those affected by the accident.”
Meanwhile, Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada said “the collision is deeply saddening”.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the two young pilots who did not return home.”
