WATCH | Ghislaine Maxwell seen in prison cell as Epstein file footage released
Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend and the woman who helped him recruit girls, is in prison for a 20-year sentence.
The prison life of one of Jeffrey Epstein’s closest associates, his former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, has been exposed with the release of CCTV footage from her cell.
Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence after her 2021 conviction for conspiracy to transport minors to participate in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, transporting a minor to participate in illegal sex acts, sex trafficking conspiracy, and sex trafficking of a minor.
According to the Daily Mail, the 10-hour footage released by the US Department of Justice is from July 2020.
In the short video snippet, Maxwell is in an orange prison jumpsuit in her small white-walled cell. She takes a sip of water from the tap, then tidies around her bed before reclining with a book in hand.
The Daily Mail reports that she was, at the time, awaiting bail, which was later denied as she posed a flight risk, after her 2020 arrest.
Maxwell was Epstein’s girlfriend when she helped him recruit girls who were then sexually exploited by Epstein and other associates, some of whom have been named in the Epstein files.
In August of 2019 Epstein allegedly committed suicide inside his Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial. Some, including his brother Mark Epstein, do not believe he committed suicide but was likely killed because of all the information he had on his associates.
