Why did Harry, Meghan visit Middle East after ‘shuttering’ foundation?

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle’s latest trip has been questions after reports claimed that the pair’s foundation has “essentially shuttered” as they let go off staff.

THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF SUSSEX VISIT MIDDLE EAST

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent two days in Jordan last week on a humanitarian mission. The pair were invited to the Middle East by the World Health Organization (WHO). This comes after Page Six reported that the pair had “essentially shuttered” their Archewell Foundation and let go of “nearly all their staffers.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s latest quasi-royal trip is being questioned, after Page Six revealed the couple has “essentially shuttered” their Archewell Foundation and let go of nearly all their staffers.

While in the Middle East, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pictured meeting young Palestinian patients evacuated from Gaza for medial treatment. The publication reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle flew commercial and not by private jet, by invitation of WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Prince Harry and Meghan reportedly paid for the trip themselves after alerting Buckingham Palace officials.

The Middle East is currently experiencing a severe and rapidly escalating regional conflict. Over the weekend, the Dubai airport amongst others such as Kuwait and Abu Dhabi were under attack.

THE ARCHEWELL FOUNDATION

Archewell announced a $500,000 (R8.2 million) donation to projects supporting injured children from Gaza and Ukraine. However, the publication reports that the Sussexes trip to Jordan comes as a surprise as they have effectively dismantled their own charity.

“They don’t have a foundation [anymore], so what are they actually doing to help these people? They have no (more) money to give… that’s the elephant in the room,” said a source to Page Six.

“They are just gracing people with their presence,” said another source.

Archewell’s Executive Director James Holt, who is also Prince Harry and Markle’s longest-serving staffer, announced that he was stepping down to move back to the UK full-time in December. It seems the visit to Jordan gave the Sussexes an opportunity to see where their funding had gone.
