A YouTuber has posted a social experiment video about his experience begging for money on the streets of Cape Town.

In a clip posted on his social media accounts, YouTuber Keith Dodgen revealed why he chose to become a street beggar in Cape Town for a day.

I’ve heard that some beggars make more money than people with full-time jobs. I’m going to see if that is true.

After being ignored by a few drivers, the content creator shared how money soon began trickling in.

In the first hour, Dodgen made R68. After a few, he earned about R500.

Comparing himself to street vendors, he said: “The less you do, the more money you make”.

According to the 2022 Census, close to 60 000 homeless people were recorded in South Africa at the time of counting.

The City of Cape Town has recorded close to 15 000 destitute residents.
