Eyman Fatima played a composed and poised game as Pakistan put together a credible total in the second T20I at the National Bank Stadium. Her unbeaten half-century came clutching to turn the match in Pakistan’s favor and saved them from the pressure.
After winning the toss, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana opted for the first innings. It proved to be a perfect choice as Pakistan bowled out in a competitive 170 for 4 in 20 overs. Both sides had their share of ups and downs in the innings but it had ended on a high note for all.
The Pakistani pair of Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza picked up a solid start. They added 27 runs in quick time. But the flow of the game slowed down when Feroza was bowled out in the fifth over. Michelle Mavunga-led Zimbabwe bowling side put pressure and made more breakthroughs.
The next challenge came for Pakistan when two of their senior players Ayesha Zafar and Iram Javed fell cheap. A strong team suddenly found itself under pressure and in need of stability in the middle order. It was here that Eyman Fatima came out, confidently.
She played safe balls rather than taking risks. She was able to control her shot selection and she had good rotation of strike. She scored with Natalia Pervaiz to form an unbeaten 78-run stand for the fifth wicket. This partnership completely changed the match situation.
Eyman was a mature hitter for the first time. She didn’t rush her way to scoring. Rather, she was concerned with developing a safe base and hitting a big finish. Her game helped Pakistan put up a tough score.
This performance will give her confidence to move forward in the future. It also highlights that Pakistan are emerging with some dependable middle order options for the future matches. It is a difficult task for Zimbabwe now and Pakistan has got something to be proud of following a resurgence from the batting ranks with Eyman Fatima.
