Good news for travellers to Mpumalanga
The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency has confirmed that all tourist sites it manages are now open following recent heavy rainfall.
Tourists and residents can once again access Mpumalanga’s major attraction sites managed by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA).
In a media release issued on 21 January 2026, the Agency confirmed that all MTPA-managed attraction sites across the province are now open following a comprehensive safety assessment.
The announcement comes after recent heavy rainfall affected parts of the tourism sector in Mpumalanga, raising concerns about accessibility and visitor safety at some sites.
Safety remains a priority at Mpumalanga sites
According to the MTPA, the decision to reopen follows a thorough evaluation of conditions at the affected attractions.
While sites are open, visitors are urged to exercise caution, particularly when travelling on access roads that may still be slippery due to persistent rainfall.
The Agency emphasised that visitor safety remains a top priority and that conditions will continue to be monitored.
Support on the ground for visitors
MTPA employees will also be deployed at all facilities to assist tourists and ensure safety measures are followed.
Visitors are encouraged to:
- Follow all posted safety rules and guidelines
- Take care when walking on wet or uneven surfaces
- Drive cautiously when travelling between attraction sites
The Agency also used the opportunity to encourage tourists to explore other attraction sites across Mpumalanga, including destinations in the Nkangala and Gert Sibande regions.
