South African right-arm bowler Gerald Coetzee has a hamstring injury ahead of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, hosted by Pakistan from February 19 to March 9.
Coetzee, who was anticipated to replace Anrich Nortje in South Africa’s eight-team tournament roster, was reportedly ruled out of Joburg Super King’s SA20 match against Pretoria Capitals due to a hamstring injury.
With his fitness under careful scrutiny, the 24-year-old is uncertain for the next three weeks. Coetzee joins Lungi Ngidi, Daryn Dupavillon, Wiaan Mulder, Nortje, Lizaad Williams, Ottneil Baartman, and Nandre Burger as the ninth South African pacer injured this summer.
For the unversed, if Gerald Coetzee fails to recover in time for the eight-team event, South Africa’s white-ball coach Rob Walter, who is also the lone selector, may opt for 18-year-old Kwena Maphaka or fast-bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch.
