Kaizer Chiefs news: Mabuza, Shabalala, Titus and new coach
Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly looking to sign a defender for next season. The Soweto giants might part ways with experienced players in June.
Kaizer Chiefs have a lot to change if they are to compete with the likes of Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
The Soweto giants are currently third in the Betway Premiership, having played 21 matches. A third-place finish will be commendable given how the club has failed to finish in the top eight in the past two seasons.
For changes to happen, Amakhosi will need to get a new top coach. Currently Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze are at the helm but the two co-coaches’ mandate is to finish in the top two and qualify for the CAF Champions League.
That alone looks unlikely, and the best the duo can do is to help the club secure a CAF Confederation Cup spot by finishing third.
In recent weeks, Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with several coaches, including Benni McCarthy and Manqoba Mngqithi. The club, however are yet to find a suitable coach for next season.
In terms of signing, Amakhosi are reportedly interested in defender Mhleli Mabuza.
“The club is once again looking at bringing in Mhleli. They want him back. He trained with the team in the pre-season; unfortunately, the coaches were not impressed at that time,” an insider told Soccer Laduma.
“He went back to Portugal, where he signed a 1-year contract with Amora SAD because there was still hope of him coming back to Chiefs, and that’s why they have reignited the interest in him. But apparently, everything will be decided at the end of the season.”.
Which players should Kaizer Chiefs sign?
Having failed to sign the likes of Oswin Appollis and Fawaaz Basadien, Amakhosi should bring in quality attackers to push the likes of Mduduzi Shabalala. Although Shaba has been impressive in the last two matches, his finishing has often been questioned.
He was spotted last month at Lehlohonolo Majoro’s strikers’ academy, where he was working on his finishing. Against Orbit College, the midfielder netted his first goal of 2026.
Stellenbosch FC attacker Devin Titus was rumoured with a move to Kaizer Chiefs. The 24-year-old scored two goals this season against Amakhosi and might be the player who can push the likes of Wandile Duba, Shaba and Vilakazi.
