Mexicans honour Santa Muerte on Day of the Dead
As Mexico marks Día de los Muertos, families adorn altars with marigolds, candles and colourful sugar skulls – calaveritas – to celebrate departed loved ones. Across the country, people honour the deceased as well as Santa Meurte, a folk saint who represents healing, protection and safe passage to the afterlife by devotees.
