Gayton McKenzie’s Patriotic Alliance (PA) has announced Cheslyn Steenberg as its mayoral candidate for the City of Cape Town ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking at the unveiling of his 22-member mayoral campaign committee, Steenberg outlined key priorities for the party, including rent regulation, equitable housing, and improved access to land.
Will contest all 118 metro wards
He confirmed that the Patriotic Alliance intends to contest all 118 wards in the metro, expressing confidence that the party could either win control of the city or emerge as a strong opposition force.
“We will focus on rent regulation, affordable housing, and ensuring land is accessible to all, not just a select few,” Steenberg said, criticising current land allocation practices.
Living conditions
The party’s youth leadership also highlighted inequality in Cape Town as a central issue.
Liam Jacobs pointed to stark contrasts in living conditions across communities, referencing challenges faced by residents in areas such as Khayelitsha.
Cheslyn Steenberg said his diverse campaign team – representing different genders, races and religious backgrounds – would play a key role in driving his vision for the city.
A full mayoral manifesto is expected to be unveiled ahead of the elections.
