Pakistan won the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy for the first time on Wednesday at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia, China, defeating Japan 2-1. Nadeem Ahmed scored the first goal, but Japan equalized in the second quarter.
A Sufyan Khan goal in the 10th minute of the second quarter restored Pakistan’s lead and secured a win. Pakistan’s first two games were draws. After failing to protect a two-goal advantage, the Green Shirts drew 2-2 with South Korea on Monday. South Korea gained the lead in the second quarter and held it until the third. Pakistan was down by one goal in the third quarter after failing to score.
Pakistan rallied in the fourth quarter with two quick goals from Hanan Shahid. Before the contest ended, Korea scored again to equalize. Pakistan and Malaysia drew 2-2 on Sunday. Pakistan plays China on September 12 and India on September 14.
