The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has given national sports federations and associations Rs1.07 billion over the past five years. The 2019-2020 fiscal year to 2023-2024 data shows that the money were allocated through annual grants, special allocations, and president and prime minister instructions to assist sports development in Pakistan.
Top funding recipient is the Pakistan Volleyball Federation, which received Rs115.5 million over five years. A large Rs100 million allocation was made in 2023-2024. The PHF received Rs103.65 million over the same period. This comprises Rs59.15 million in 2023-2024. Hockey Federation received Rs34 million in 2022-2023, Rs5.5 million in 2021-2022, Rs3.5 million in 2020-2021, and Rs1.5 million in 2019-2020 via presidential or prime ministerial directions.
The Athletics Federation of Pakistan received Rs101.29 million over five years. This grant was mostly released in 2023–2024, totaling Rs69.25 million. The Pakistan Netball Federation earned Rs70 million over five years, including Rs33 million in 2023-2024 and Rs32 million in 2022-2023. Over five years, Rs60.97 million was given to the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation. After Rs14.47 million in 2022-2023, Rs39.5 million was distributed in 2023-2024.
Another significant recipient was the Pakistan Tennis Federation, earning Rs48.68 million over five years. A large Rs32.9 million grant is in 2023-2024. Over five years, Pakistan Squash Federation received Rs49.92 million. While these major sports got most PSB financing, several minor federations also received significant support. The Pakistan Chess Federation received Rs29.5 million of their Rs39.5 million allocation in 2022-2023.
Over Rs34 million of the Pakistan Karate Federation’s Rs38 million financing came in 2022-2023. Other sports like wrestling, cycling, and baseball earned significant budgets. The Pakistan Cycling Federation earned Rs37.39 million and the Wrestling Federation Rs37.93 million. Pakistan Federation Baseball received Rs44 million.
Funds for smaller federations and athletes are also listed by the PSB. The Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation won Rs3 million and the Weightlifting Federation Rs3.5 million. Pak Basketball received Rs3 million. Boxers M Shoaib Khan and Usman Wazir won Rs1.7 million and Rs2 million, respectively. According to the Pakistan Sports Board’s website, Rs1,069,341,872 was spent over five years. In 2023–2024, federations received Rs509.13 million, a huge rise from prior years.
In 2020-2021, the PSB released Rs42.42 million, up from Rs25 million in 2019-2020. Funding increased even more to Rs69.5 million in 2021–2022. In the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the PSB distributed Rs423.29 million to federations and athletes, the biggest increase. The Pakistan Sports Board has given each federation and athlete these monies during the past five years.
