Protest at UCT causes traffic delays on M3

Motorists are advised to expect delays along the M3 North following protest action at the entrance to the University of Cape Town (UCT) in Rondebosch.

According to reports from community newsgroups, rocks were placed in the roadway, disrupting traffic flow along the busy route.

Officers on site

Traffic officers initially closed the entrances to UCT’s upper campus as a precaution.

However, both the north and south entrances have since been reopened, with officers on site assisting vehicles back onto the M3 and working to ease congestion.

At this stage, it is understood that students are protesting against fee blocks that are preventing them from registering due to outstanding debt.

Motorists are urged to approach the area with caution and to consider alternative routes where possible.
