Saim Ayub Backed Before England Clash

The current in-form opener of Pakistan Sahibzada Farhan defended his opening partner Saim Ayub in lean streak before the most important ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eights match against England, which will be held in this venue at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Ayub, the last Pakistan to score a half-century in the third T20I of the home series against Australia earlier this month, has been failing to replicate his batting form in the current 20 team tournament to this date.

The left handed opener has scored 63 in four matches at a pathetic average of 15.75 with his best being 24 which he attained in the campaign opener against Netherlands.

Even though Ayub has been a significant addition to the spin-bowling stocks of Pakistan as he has snatched five wickets with an impressive average of 10.60 and an economy rate of 6.62 in his lean spell, his lean spurt has remained a significant concern to the 2009 champions since they are yet to make a solid start at the bat in the mega event.

Instead, its opening partner, Farhan has so far had a wonderful time at the bat, topping the list of the T20 World Cup 2026 run-scorers with 220 runs in four innings with a spectacular average of 73.33.

However, the right-handed opener was not afraid of the capabilities of his partner to produce a powerful performance in the following fixtures.

It is a player like Look, Saim Ayub, who is unable to play in each and every match due to the influence he creates whenever he scores runs, but there is a strong belief that he will lead us to a win by smacking a good run or two, said Farhan during the pre-match press conference.
