UPDATE | Robert Mugabe’s son now faces two MORE charges
The NPA says Bellarmine Mugabe now faces two additional charges following his brief appearance in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says Bellarmine Mugabe (28) and his co-accused Tobias Matonhodze (33) are now facing two additional charges following their brief appearance in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The matter has been postponed to Thursday, 5 March, for further proceedings.
New Charges Added
The pair have now been charged with pointing a firearm and contravention of the Immigration Act.
These charges are in addition to the initial counts of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and possession of a firearm.
Their arrest stems from a shooting incident involving a 23-year-old man, believed to be a gardener at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.
Case Postponed
NPA Gauteng spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole confirmed that the postponement will allow the state to provide the defence with documentary evidence.
“The postponement is to allow the state to provide the defence with confirmatory documentary evidence from the Department of Home Affairs and to enable the defence to obtain further instructions from the accused,” Mohlatlole said.
The case continues later this week as investigations proceed.
