Updated World Rugby rankings after Six Nations conclusion

France are officially the 2026 Six Nations champions, securing back-to-back titles for the first time since 2007, and they have also made impressive progress on the World Rugby rankings during the course of the season.

Les Bleus clinched the Six Nations championship with the final kick of the tournament – a long-range penalty by Thomas Ramos – to beat England 48-46 in an absolute thriller in Paris.

Besides serving as a result that enabled them to walk away with the title, France have strengthened their position in fourth place on the World Rugby rankings.

Meanwhile, Ireland did their part earlier in the day by defeating Scotland 43–21 in Dublin. This victory secured the Triple Crown for Ireland, but they ultimately finished two points behind France in the table.

On the rankings, Ireland sit in third place just behind the All Blacks, but the Springboks are still safely ensconced at the top with a 3.61 buffer.

In the final round of the Six Nations, it is also worth noting that Wales ended their 15-match losing streak in the championship by beating Italy 31–17 in Cardiff, ensuring they didn’t finish at the bottom of the table. It also enabled them to jump into 11th place on the rankings.

At the conclusion of the Six Nations, coach Fabien Galthié haileed the fighting spirit of his team.

“We started really well with three wins out of three and then we had to battle in each match,” said Galthié.

“Every scenario was very complex, very difficult. You see that in this tournament, the stories change every week.

“We saw it again today … it’s a tournament with huge sporting value and huge competitiveness – it’s monstrous.”
