The Suzuki Across will become the brand’s new flagship model in South Africa, taking over the top spot from the Grand Vitara.

The new Suzuki Across will be manufactured in India and offered in two trim levels: GL and GLX, the automaker said.

The entry-level GL model will be available with either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The range-topping GLX will only be offered with the automatic gearbox.

All versions are powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with mild-hybrid technology, producing 76kW of power as well as 139Nm of torque.

The company says the hybrid assistance helps the SUV achieve an average fuel consumption of 4.8 litres per 100km.
